What Is An Affirmation? What is it that You want?

by Martina

An affirmation is a saying that is laid out in a positive format, that aligns with our goals, that strengthens our inner idea about ourselves, and that asserts our belief that we can achieve our goals.

For an affirmation to be effective, you need to state it in the present tense in order to awaken the right reaction of our brains. You word it as though it were already happening, drawing on your mind’s eye with full emotional power. Affirmations are usually followed by visualizations, which lead to extraordinary results, in all areas of our lives. Research and experiments have proven this.

First, you need to know what your goals are. Get crystal clear on what it is that you want to achieve and write it down on a piece of paper. Second, start affirming yourself in words that make you feel positive and align with your goals.

So to sum up, affirmations should be stated in:

  • a minimum amount of words to be understood clearly and quickly; be specific
  • the first person singular
  • the present tense
  • a positive form
  • repeated a few times daily

Some examples:

  1. If you find it difficult to concentrate and thus you start procrastinating, you might say: “I spend most of the time working on the deals and tasks that are highly profitable.
  2. Delegation - if you own a business and value your time, you know how important it is to delegate tasks to appropriate people: “I delegate with effectiveness, and find the right person for the specific task.
  3. Self-reliance -I am good at what I do, and I believe in my ability to achieve my goal.”
  4. Planning is essential when it comes to achievements. It’s like driving – if you know exactly where you are going you will get there faster. “I spend my time planning. I plan specific actions and steps that lead to the achievement of my goal.”
  5. Enthusiasm -  “I treat my work and goals with enthusiasm.”

When you work on affirmations, you simply encode your subconscious mind. In contrast to most of the population that lets other people, TV or the media in general influence them, by setting your own affirmations you decide to step onto an entirely different path. You start to define your own level of success that is independent of anybody else’s point of view.

Remember that affirmations, followed by visualization and action, become a solid foundation for the achievement of your desires.

Visualization and action. Visualization makes your goal more real, and action takes you outside of your own mind, thus breaking the limiting beliefs that used to stop you in your previous life. Even if you know where you are going you will get run over if you just sit there.

As Albert Einstein said, “We are boxed in by the boundary conditions of our thinking.”
